What Is Kratom?

Kratom, also known locally in many countries in Southeast Asia as Crain, Chang, Kakuam, Ketchum, Kratom, and Thom, is a favourite herbal plant in the counties of Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, some areas of Vietnam and other neighbouring countries. Its tree can rise up to 40 meters high and can spread for more than 15 feet wide, depending on its age and place of cultivation. It has glossy and dark green leaves that measure around 8 inches in length while it can fan out up to 4.5 inches wide.

Reported Health Issues Related To Kratom

Reports from users claiming they experience severe withdrawal symptoms after quitting Kratom roam around the web today. That is just among the reasons why it should be considered illegal. According to reports, these health issues and concerns are possible if the user consumes high doses of Kratom every single day. Among these symptoms include excessive loss of weight, development of dark pigmentation on the face. Withdrawal symptoms may vary according to users, but most of them include but not limited to muscle pain and jolting, irritability, abrupt emotional changes, runny nose, and diarrhea.

Kratom Legal status.

In the US, petitions on recalling and imposing ban to Kratom and declare it as illegal are being pushed to the FDA and DEA to ensure that this drug will no longer be available in the country. Groups that promote its declaration as illegal emphasize that there is a huge possibility that people will abuse this drug – and that will happen sooner or later.

This matter calls for a full campaign urging the government to regulate, if not prohibit the importation and legal distribution of Kratom, not unless it has been proven safe for consumption.

Kratom contains over 25 alkaloids that stimulate the brain. This content gives the same effect that users can get from opiates and synthetic drugs – which has everyone knows, are very addictive. If these contents are consumed in uncontrolled and high doses, U.S. DEA affirms that it can eventually lead to addiction.
