Energy Drinks, Coffee & Kratom

May 19, 2018 Articles, Kratom Research, Kratom Strains

Let’s face it, we live in a culture of crack heads. Granted, the average person isn’t sucking the stem on a daily basis, or at all, but we’re all tweakin’ on something. For some, it’s weight loss supplements and for others, it’s those little energy shots you find on the counter at your local 7-Eleven.

No matter your preference, you’re likely ingesting something that results in you getting fidgety and jittery.

This isn’t necessarily a problem for most people. A morning cup o’ joe or a Monster energy drink is perfectly healthy in moderation…right? Wrong.

So, how dangerous are they? Well, you be the judge. How does a hole in your skull from “excessive energy drink consumption” sound? Pretty cool, am I right?

Seriously, though, many news outlets have covered the potential health risks of caffeine and some have even pointed to the other proprietary ingredients in energy drinks as the most dangerous.

You may be wondering what this has to do with kratom.

Well, if you’re a hardcore kratomite, you already know that kratom comes from Mitragyna speciosa, an evergreen tree that belongs to the coffee family of plants. As such, it can have stimulating effects and energize those who ingest it.

Much has been written about combining kratom and coffee, but few sites have discussed the potential side effects of mixing kratom with coffee or energy drinks containing caffeine. Today, we’ll talk about how coffee can potentiate the effects of kratom and what you need to know before taking this robust mishmash.

As you probably guessed, this combination produces exciting effects. Kratom is already a natural dynamizer, but when taken in concert with coffee, the level of stimulation is dialed up to eleven. However, users are advised to avoid large doses as binging on the two can actually have the opposite effect, effectively sedating rather than stimulating.

For the best results, substitute a small cup of coffee for a glass of water when using the toss n’ wash method and stick to a low gram kratom dosage. This should provide long-lasting energy and a clean buzz.

Kratom has been used for hundreds of years as an herbal analgesic (pain reliever) and anxiolytic (anti-anxiety) medication. While it has not been approved by the FDA, it is used as a natural supplement to treat a range of conditions from chronic back pain and Fibromyalgia to insomnia and mood disorders.

Select kratom strains may induce a sense of euphoria, relieve depression, quash anxiety, alleviate stress, get rid of nausea and promote a restful night’s sleep. Coffee promotes weight loss, helps people to curb their appetite for sugary foods, boosts physical performance and reduces the risk of stroke or Parkinson’s.

Both coffee and kratom are known for having antioxidant properties, and can increase focus and mental alertness.

On its own, coffee has been known to cause agitation, sleeplessness and heart palpitations. High doses can lead to toxicity or even convulsions. 10 grams of coffee is considered a fatal dose as it induces cardiac arrhythmias. Other adverse effects include headaches, stomach cramps and diarrhea.

Like coffee, kratom can cause nausea, diarrhea and insomnia at high doses. Other potential side effects of kratom use include constipation, sweating, increased urination, sun sensitivity, itching, dry mouth and hypertension.

When taken in conjunction with one another, these two potent substances can potentiate one another’s detrimental effects.

Coffee is especially effective when combined with red vein kratom strains as these are the slow kratom strains. Coffee actually aids in chilling a person out when they’re overly stimulated from the effects of a fast kratom strain (white vein kratom), but it can also optimize one’s energy when taking a slow kratom strain.

Maybe you’re not down for the toss n’ wash technique or you’re more used to popping kratom capsules. If you want to brew kratom coffee, you can simply dump your kratom powder into your french press with your ground coffee beans.

Pairing coffee with kratom can improve drowsiness, provide users with a sense of well-being and vanquish anxiety. For those who are considering this combo, remember to maintain a heart healthy diet and a decent sleep schedule as both coffee and kratom can effect circadian rhythm and lead to sleep disturbance.

Users should start with the lowest dose possible before working their way up to a moderate dose of each. When taken in high doses, coffee and kratom can have dire health consequences. For the best results, take responsibly. As YouTube personality Philip DeFranco famously says, “Don’t be stupid, Stupid.”

All things considered, the coffee family belongs together.
