Kratom Potentiators: How They Work and Are There Safety Concerns

Editor’s Note: The following is for research purposes only. Kratom has not been approved for human consumption by the FDA. This comprehensive list of kratom potentiators is based solely on research within the kratom community and should not be interpreted as formal advice.

Since experiences with kratom vary widely from person to person and its purported effects are largely dependent on several mitigating factors, many in the community wonder what they can do to potentiate its efficacy.

I know from personal experience that I’ve often been disappointed by kratom strains because I perceived them to be weak, but that’s not always the case. Those who have researched Mitragyna speciosa and its alkaloids have actually found that kratom may work best in concert with other natural compounds.

It’s easy to feel frustrated when you don’t achieve the effects you were looking for or come to find that a kratom strain that was touted as being super strong turns out to seem less than potent. But there just might be a remedy to that supposed ineffectiveness.

As it turns out, there is a vast array of potentiators and all of them are believed to be capable of increasing kratom’s most rewarding effects.

By utilizing these potentiators, users can consume lower doses and avail themselves of a more rewarding experience. In this comprehensive guide to kratom potentiators you’ll learn everything you need to know about how they work.

It’s not just the breakfast of champions or the go-to brain fuel of the godfather of Gonzo. This somewhat sour semi-sweet treat from the subtropical citrus tree contains an enzyme that can break down substances such as kratom.

This process enables kratom to remain in one’s body for a longer duration of time. What’s particularly excellent about grapefruit as opposed to other potentiators is its tastiness. Drinking a glass of grapefruit juice with your kratom powder makes for a pleasant, delicious dose.

Grapefruit is also more affordable than many of the other options on this list, making for a cost-productive and cool all-natural experience. If you’re not a fan of grapefruit, similar results can be achieved by using starfruit, although you will likely spend more money.

For those who don’t want to squeeze fresh grapefruit juice, you can also use grapefruit peels in your kratom tea. Just use a cheese grater to produce a sufficient amount of grapefruit zest and you’re golden. You’ll be feeling it in no time.

This one is perfect for my fellow fire fans; I was super stoked when I found out about this one because I love putting cayenne pepper in all of my recipes, whether I’m making chili, salsa or even a bloody mary. Some spice can really kick things up a notch and that extends to kratom as much as anything else.

After giving this one a go, I was shocked at the big difference it made when I mixed it with my dry Bali dose. I just mixed a tiny amount (less than a teaspoon) in with my kratom powder and took it with water.

While this one won’t necessarily make kratom last any longer than it normally would, you will likely see a notable hike in potency.

Speaking of spices, Turmeric is another must-have in your pantry. I keep at least two bottles on hand at all times, one for my signature homemade curry recipe and one for burning Thai kratom powder. This is a potentiator I typically use when dosing with white vein kratom.

For whatever reason, I’ve found that Turmeric tends to heighten the effects of white vein kratom strains more than others, substantially intensifying the stimulation and energy enhancement germane to such kratom leaf.

For best results, I usually mix Turmeric with black pepper. I know it may sound weird, but I’m always pleased with the results. This one is good for extending duration by as much as 1-2 hours. I like to mix both with my dry kratom powder and toss n’ wash with a glass of grapefruit juice.

This one is good for those who are using a kratom strain for its anxiolytic or sedating properties. Chamomile tea is already a soothing tea that can help users to relax and decompress after a stressful day at work, but when taken in tandem with kratom, that stress reduction will be significant and long-lasting.

Although it is not ideal for those using white or green vein kratom, chamomile tea is the perfect companion piece to pure red vein kratom strains, such as Red Vein Kali and the aforementioned Bali kratom.

If it’s euphoria or sedation that you’re after, chamomile can help you get there and prolong such sensations.

No, I’m not talking about getting in a scratchy fight with an alley cat, I’m talking about the obscure Central American herb that is generally used to help with viral infections, arthritis, cancer and IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome).

Cat’s Claw possesses alkaloids that are not dissimilar from those of kratom and, as such, it can potentiate extended duration of kratom’s effects.

Like chamomile, valerian root may enhance the relaxing effects of certain kratom strains. Valerian root stimulates the production of the CYP2D6 enzyme that unlocks kratom’s effects. Valerian root has long been used as a natural supplement for sleep disorders and chronic conditions like Fibromyalgia.

For these reasons, valerian root is believed to be a natural pain reliever which can make a valerian-kratom combo a viable option among those afflicted with joint pain and inflammation.

Okay, I won’t lie…this one’s pretty gross. The combination of kratom and akuamma seed powder is as bitter as bitter gets, but if you soldier through it, you won’t be let down. This potent natural analgesic is harvested with the help of forest villagers in Ghana and can yield impressive results.

Boasting abundant alkaloids and a rich color, akuamma powder produces a calming and sedating effect that pairs nicely with a number of kratom strains. It may also make your kratom experience a stronger one.

This mega-hydrated aquatic plant is sold in lettuce form and is renowned for enhancing energy and fighting obesity. Watercress has also been used as a natural stimulant which is why it is hardly surprising that it works well when taken in conjunction with kratom leaf.

For those who don’t know, kratom comes for the coffee family of plants and is, therefore, a robust stimulant in its own right. In collaboration with watercress, kratom becomes even bolder than it typically would be.

Most of you already know that kratom carries with it some potential adverse effects, effects that may include nausea, dizziness, agitation, sleeplessness, diarrhea, sweating or skin rash. Obviously, combining kratom with other compounds will only increase the probability of side effects cropping up.

But there’s more to it that all that; kratom potentiators may interact poorly with bodily functions. In the case of grapefruit, it is important to remember to drink plenty of water and only use grapefruit juice sparingly as a large dose combined with kratom may lead to headaches and gastrointestinal issues in addition to other, more dangerous side effects.

All users who choose to use kratom potentiators should take proper precautions and limit intake to low doses to avoid health risks. This goes for kratom as much as the compounds listed above.

I hope our readers have enjoyed this comprehensive guide to kratom potentiators and trust that it will give them a nice shortcut to the best potentiators on the market.
