Buzz Gum Kratom: A Kratom Chew That’s Hard to Swallow

We can all agree that kratom is awesome and like so many awesome things in this life, someone had to come along and warp it beyond recognition. Enter the minds behind Buzz Gum, the world’s first kratom chewing gum and a seriously bastardized take on the thrill of the kratom leaf.

Buzz Gum Kratom has gotten a lot of traction thanks to its presence on the smoke shop circuit. But is it really a safe and effective kratom product? Let’s have a look!

Buzz Gum USA’s eponymous product is a proprietary kratom chewing gum…but it’s not strictly a kratom-based chewing gum. Buzz Gum is made from 15x kratom extract and 5-HTP. It is advertised on their social media accounts as a great tasting alternative to liquid kratom extracts.

What’s important to note here is the absence of proper certification. Buzz Gum does not come with any kind of guarantee that its active ingredients have been lab tested for purity or lack of adulteration. Smoke shop kratom brands are notorious for being contaminated or cut with synthetic chemicals.

Furthermore, the presence of 5-HTP should raise some eyebrows since 5-HTP on its own can be a dangerous substance. Having high concentrations of 5-HTP in your system can lead to a spike in serotonin levels which may result in anxiety, heart problems and other health risks.

In the past, a number of individuals who have taken 5-HTP supplements have ended up suffering from a life-threatening condition called EMS (eosinophilia-myalgia syndrome). This flu-like neurological condition is currently incurable which is why it is particularly imperative that users understand what they are chewing on.

Buzz Gum’s effects are dependent upon users swallowing their own saliva as they chew the gum. In theory, its effects are also potentiated by keeping the gum in your mouth where its juices are absorbed under the tongue.

Since there is no way of knowing how much kratom and how much 5-HTP is in a single piece of Buzz Gum, it is impossible to know how much Buzz Gum is safe to chew.

Buzz Gum does not have much of a following online, but those who have heard about it are unanimous in their wariness. The general consensus is that products like Buzz Gum muck it up for the kratom community at large.

As one user put it on a forum post, “It’s unfortunate we have people promoting kratom as a buzz “make you feel good”. I’ve seen “buzz gum” at the gas station another member heard an advertisement on the radio promoting it as a high. These idiots will also ruin kratom for us; ironic when the intention is to make a profit yet seemingly oblivious to the negative light they’re putting their money maker in.”

Elsewhere, another user spoke out against kratom chewing gum, writing, “Yeah, I saw that shit yesterday. Was pretty upset. Vivazen and now this shit. Extracted kratom in any form should be taboo’d. The reason Kratom is staying legal is because of the horror of actually dosing it out. As soon as some kid dies from taking too much extracted product, kratom is getting the boot.”

The 5 htp and kratom reddit page says that 5-HTP + kratom equals malaise and/or dysphoria. The user who posted about this topic spoke about their “lame” experiences with the combo, saying, “It took me a few times to realize this was what was causing the unwanted side effects when taking kratom; I tried eating a meal before taking kratom, I took less, tried adding caffeine, drinking more water.

“But eventually I realized it started ever since I began taking 100mg of 5-htp every so often with my multivitamin in the morning. It would basically make me feel like I had taken too much kratom. I would feel a little dizzy, extra nauseous, and just blehh overall.

“So yeah, just a warning to everyone, these two substances do not combine well, at least in my experience.”

Unless you think that it is worth it to gamble with your health, there is really know reason to waste your money on products like Buzz Gum. They muddy the waters for legitimate kratom vendors and give kratom itself a bad name. Don’t believe the hype and always do your homework before putting something in your mouth. Be safe, be smart and be well.
