Red Borneo Kratom has been marketed under a variety of names, including Red Indo, Indo Super Red and Super Red Borneo Indo. All of these names are just fancy names for one of the finest old school kratom strains.

As you probably guessed, Red Vein Borneo comes from the island of Borneo in Indonesia. There it grows to incredible heights in the area’s remote tropical rain forests. These OG Mitragyna speciosa trees grow in mineral-rich soil which is fed by the many estuaries of the region.

As if all the nicknames weren’t confusing enough, Indonesia also produces a Borneo strain called Red Kali. The difference between the two mostly comes down to their geographical location. Red Kali is grown in West Kalimantan (hence the name) while Red Borneo is grown along the Kapuas River in the archipelago of the Greater Sunda Islands.

This strain occurs naturally in green, red and white vein varieties. Each vein color determines the purported benefits of that kratom tea. For instance, Green Borneo tends to be more invigorating which makes it an ideal “daytime strain.”

Red Borneo tends to go the other way, offering hours of serene repose with the added bonus of restorative sleep. That’s why Borneo Kratom is legendary all over the world—it’s a diverse cultivar that often leaves one feeling replenished and ready to seize the day.

Red Borneo Kratom Extract has emerged as one of the most sought-after liquid kratom shots on the market. Although you are unlikely to find Borneo kratom tinctures in most smoke shops, some of the best-rated kratom suppliers have begun stocking extract powder.

Phytoextractum is our top pick for kratom extracts, especially in the case of Red Borneo. Their 25x Borneo extract powder has a 7% mitragynine content, and high concentrations of Corynoxine A and B.

Many users brew Red Borneo tea to unwind after a rough work day. It is also enjoyed by athletes who want to take a break between reps to rest their muscle groups.

The natives of Southeast Asia (Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar and Papua New Guinea) have been using kratom as a folk medicine for hundreds of years. Regardless of its global reach, it has not been approved for medicinal use here in the United States.

The FDA has warned US-based kratom vendors about applying medical claims to their kratom products. Furthermore, they have issued a public warning, cautioning citizens against consuming kratom.

Nevertheless, consumers are flocking to M. speciosa leaf in droves and many of them insist that it is a valuable herb. Users swear by its efficacy in a number of distinct areas. These purported effects may include any of the following:

  • Calm
  • Attentiveness
  • Invigoration
  • Mild exhilaration
  • Sharpened focus
  • Motivation
  • General well-being
  • Restful sleep

In my years as an active botanical blogger, I have tried Red Vein Borneo on numerous occasions, both from Kratom Crazy’s in-house stock and from a host of other e-commerce sites. For research purposes, I have even submitted to “burning” cheap smoke shop brands.

As you can well imagine, some of these experiences were disappointing while others were quite surprising. I’ve learned who I can trust and which brands to avoid … but I’ve also learned to never judge a book by its cover.

The first time I sampled some Red Borneo it was sent to me by a new company with zero online presence and a very basic e-commerce website. Their online store was hard-to-navigate and lacked any money back guarantee or lab results.

Needless to say, I was more than skeptical of their quality and went into my review expecting the worst. As you’ll see from my notes, I was wrong to make assumptions without firsthand knowledge of their brand.

3:00 PM The packaging leaves something to be desired, the bag is very generic and won’t reseal properly. Whatev. Here goes nothing! For this dose, I’ll be taking 2.5 grams of Red Vein Borneo and chasing it with iced pomegranate juice… taste is bitter and toss ‘n wash was a bad idea (clump of powder’s stuck to the roof of my mouth)…

3:25 PM My girl hits me up and tells me she’s getting out of work early and needs a ride. I tell her I’ve got nothing going on, so she tells me to pick her up. Why not? I’m not feeling anything yet, so what could it hurt?

[Author’s Note: Kids, do not try this at home. Always drive responsibly and don’t get behind the wheel if your pupils are blown out like a raccoon hit by lightning. Learn from my mistakes.]

3:40 PM Five minutes from my girl’s job and I’m driving like my Tims are full of wet cement. There’s an intense warmth in my chest and my eyelids feel heavy. I feel like Gumby … every muscle in my body has come unmoored.

3:50 PM It’s impossible for the girlfriend to stay mad at me because I’m grinning like a fool and I keep telling her how much love I have swelling inside of me. As we gun it down the highway, I feel immense compassion for every living creature that flies past in the rear view.

4:25 PM Back in the safety and sanctity of our own home, I immediately crash on the couch and feel like taking a nap but all I can do is laugh. I feel so comfortable that my brain won’t switch off … I’ve gotta savor this level of comfort, this inexplicable sensation of sublime leisure.

5:00 PM I experience a sudden yearning to talk to everyone I know, a yearning that I am not accustomed to whatsoever. Every person I call is either busy or otherwise unavailable. This doesn’t faze me in the least … I call Dominos and order two thin crust pepperoni pizzas and an order of cheesy bread. After placing my order, I talk the clerk’s ear off about condiments for what feels like seconds (my girl insists it was a solid ten minutes).

5:15 PM The ‘za won’t be here for another 15 minutes or so, but a wave of nausea has hit me after getting up to take a leak. My knees are buckling and the warmth in my chest has returned in a rolling wave. This is far more bracing than I could have anticipated. Get some more pomegranate juice with ice. Some ice will cool things down.

5:35 PM A cold compress on my forehead has somehow worked—it has successfully quelled the nausea that was taking root and I’m feeling very drowsy. The ‘za arrives a few minutes late and I thank the driver profusely. We dig into the cheesy bread, polishing that sucker off in just a few minutes. Nothing’s tasted this good since my days with California Sunshine.

6:00 PM (?) Some time around six I doze off and have some very vivid dreams about coral reef.

7:25 PM I awake to the sound of cartoons and rise with a start. I’m amazed by how rested I feel. It strikes me as odd that the warmth is still lingering in my chest, though it’s a welcome feeling.

All things considered, this was one of the best kratom doses I ever had.

Of all the red veins on the market, Red Borneo is the one that is most often confused with Red Vein Bali. While the two are both red veins from Indonesia, there are some minor differences in their chemical make-up as well as their aromas.

For example, Red Bali is extremely exhilarating with moderate invigoration. In the case of Red Borneo, this pleasurable aroma is more subdued and the restorative properties are more pronounced.

As I mentioned earlier, the FDA has not approved M. speciosa and its alkaloids for medicinal use. As such, no medical recommendations can be made.

That being said, most seasoned users would agree that the following functions as a general guideline for first-time users:

  • Threshold – 2 grams
  • Low – 2.5-4 grams
  • Moderate – 3-5 grams
  • High – 5-7 grams
  • Extreme – 7-10 grams

If you visit enough Red Borneo Kratom Reddit posts, you’ll see just why this M. speciosa cultivar has remained a longtime bestseller. One user wrote, “WOW! … At half my normal dose, I had yet to have plain leaf hit me as hard, as pleasant, as euphoric … as this Red Borneo from DG.”

Another Reddit user said he thinks it has a very quick onset of effects compared to other strains. Elsewhere, a user writes: “Red Borneo is quickly becoming one of my favorites! I started with a sample, but I’m definitely getting more. I do very well with this in the day time, no sleepy effect and lots of…relief.”

Depending on who you get it from, Red Borneo can serve as a daytime or nighttime strain. The best vendors carry fresh small batch kratom that’s as versatile as it is potent.

When buying kratom online, always do your due diligence. Look into a seller’s background, find out what they’re all about and make sure they offer refunds.

Consider joining one of the top kratom forums to read user experiences, strain recommendations and vendor reviews. Don’t fall for fancy logos and empty promises. Always demand answers to your questions. Be safe, be smart and be well.
